General Information

The Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education (Secondary) is a four-year full time course, or part time equivalent, which provides initial teacher education for people who wish to work in secondary school classroom settings with a Humanities focus. The course is available via on-campus study only.

The successful completion of this course leads to provisional registration with the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT).

This course consist of four strands: Christian Studies, Education Studies, Discipline Studies (including Discipline Content and Curriculum and Pedagogy) and Professional Experiences. Students must also fulfill other requirements including Student Teacher Embedded Practice (STEP), Professional and Community Experiences (PACE) and Senior First Aid, CPR and Lifesaving certification.

BArts/BEd students complete a major (8 units) in one of the following Humanities fields: Biblical Studies, Christian Studies, Drama, English, History, Studies of Society and Environment.

A minor (4 units) is also completed in one of the following areas: Biblical Studies, Business, Drama, English, History, Mathematics, Science, Studies of Society and Environment.

Students choose eight units from one Humanities field as their major teaching area and four units from another field as their minor teaching area. The major teaching area will consist of a minimum of three introductory (100-level) units and a maximum of five advanced (200- and 300- level) units, of which one unit must be a 300-level. The minor teaching area will consist of a minimum of two introductory (100-level) units and a maximum of two advanced (200- and 300- level) units, of which one unit must be a 300-level.
